When our friends at Siksika Animal Services reached out looking for placement for an emaciated young dog, we knew we had to help him. Bear was found covered in blood, suffering from quill injuries and in desperate need of help. 

Bear required urgent surgery, but our hospital schedule was full – so instead we sent him to a partner clinic to get the attention he needed right away. Then, once he arrived at AARCS, we were able to take a closer look and really understand what he would need.

Bear will need pain medications and antibiotics to help keep him comfortable while he heals and keep infection at bay. He will require future surgeries as more quills begin to emerge. He's also receiving treatment for an ear infection, and he'll need some broken teeth removed in a dental surgery down the road.

Care requirements include emergency quill removal surgery, pain medications, antibiotics, ear drops, future quill surgeries, dental surgery, follow-up veterinary care and daily care until Bear is ready for adoption. 

If the amount raised for Bear exceeds his cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.
