Sweet Cupcake is just three months old, and this tiny pup flew all the way from the Northwest Territories to get the medical care she desperately needs!
Cupcake has a condition called megaesophagus (often called Mega-E). Simply put, her esophagus (the tube that carries food from her mouth to her stomach) doesn’t work the way it should. Instead of meals sliding down smoothly, food and water can get stuck, making it hard for her little body to get the nutrients she needs and putting her at risk of regurgitation and even pneumonia. It’s definitely not an easy recipe for puppyhood.
To help Cupcake thrive, she’s been started on lifelong, special-order medications. She also needs to be fed upright and stay that way for at least 30 minutes afterward so gravity can do the heavy lifting and guide her food safely to her stomach. As a bouncy, wiggly small-breed pup, this can be challenging! Cupcake will need ongoing veterinary care, diagnostics, special medications, and intensive daily feeding for the rest of her life.

Care requirements include special-order medications from a compounding pharmacy in Ontario, three-times daily hand-feeding, regular veterinary exams and diagnostics, and daily care until Cupcake finds her forever home.
If the amount raised for Cupcake exceeds her cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.
