When Mishka arrived from her long journey to us from the Northwest Territories, she was limping and in a lot of pain. Based on the notes from the previous shelter, we thought we were going to be amputating her leg. But once our veterinarians were able to complete a full workup on her, we found hope that we could save it.

Mishka has a chronic fracture to her pelvis, meaning it is an old injury that didn't heal correctly. She needs surgery to help her get back to pain-free movement and enjoying puppyhood! The surgery she needs is called a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO), where the top of the femur – the ball from the ball and socket joint of the hip – is removed. Over time, the scar tissue and ligaments will form a pseudo-joint, allowing Mishka to use her leg again. Due to the chronicity of her injury, she needs to see a specialist for the best chance of a full recovery.

Mishka desperately wants to run and play like any other seven month old puppy. Can you help her get the surgery she needs to live the life she deserves?

Email updates showing Mishka's progress will be provided to those who donate towards her care.

Care requirements include transportation from NWT, pre- and post-op x-rays, pain medicaiton, FHO surgery, spay surgery, FHO rehabilitation, vaccinations and daily care until Mishka is ready for adoption.

If the amount raised for Mishka exceeds her cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.
