Fundraiser Profile Image

Mr. Ammon has been in our care since October 2023 as a transfer in from the Alberta SPCA. He is only 9 months old and has been lucky enough to remain in the same loving foster home for the past three months!

During his time in foster care, his foster mama started to notice some abnormalities with him. She reported this to our Veterinary Hospital and was able to capture some of the abnormal behaviours on video. The videos revealed Ammon opening his mouth very wide and pawing frantically at his face. In the videos, it appears that during these episodes, he cannot close his jaw. These episodes only last a minute or so, but they do show Ammon in a distressed state.

At this stage, we have done 2 sedated assessments, including taking skull/jaw x-rays and full mouth dental x-rays. These assessments and images yielded us no specific diagnosis or answers. Based on the foster home's video evidence and their perception of the episodes, our differentials include: neurological deficits such as seizures and/or Feline Orofacial Pain Syndrome (FOPS).

We want nothing more than to be able to provide Ammon a life without episodes of distress by getting to the bottom of this medical mystery. Can you help us get him to a specialist and figure out what's going on?

Email updates showing Ammon's progress will be provided to those who donate towards his care.

Care requirements include diagnostic imaging such as a CT scan, a consultation with a neurologist, ongoing medications and daily care until Ammon is ready for adoption.

If the amount raised for Ammon exceeds his cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.

Please note that when donating to more than one animal, your credit card may be flagged for unusual activity. We recommend waiting a few minutes between transactions to prevent this error. Thank you for your patience!
