At three months old, little Bettina has already faced more challenges than most will in a lifetime. Rescued by the NWT SPCA, this sweet puppy has a heartbreaking story. She was allegedly thrown by a human, resulting in a severe injury to her hip. She received pain medications and a splint and then began the journey south, first flying to Edmonton and then being driven to Calgary to our Veterinary Hospital.
Upon arrival, it was clear Bettina's injury was significant. She was suffering from a dislocated hip, which our veterinary team attempted three times to put back into place under anaesthesia, but it popped back out each time. Unfortunately, dislocations like this can be tough to reduce if not done almost immediately after the injury, which was impossible in Bettina's case.
Despite her injury, Bettina remains a loving, fiery pup. She will need Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery to salvage the limb, but we expect she will live a full, happy life once she recovers! This surgery and the follow-up care she will need will be costly, but we're determined to give this young pup the chance to thrive. Can you help her get back on track and live the life she deserves, free of pain and cruelty?
Email updates showing Bettina's progress will be provided to those who donate towards her care.
Care requirements include transportation from the Northwest Territories, pre- and post-op x-rays, pain medication, FHO surgery, spay surgery, FHO rehabilitation, vaccinations and daily care until Bettina is ready for adoption.
If the amount raised for Bettina exceeds her cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.
