This senior guinea pig is as sweet as his name suggests – and he desperately needs help. At five years old, Smores recently made his way into our care with a noticeable limp in his back leg. Concerned for his comfort, we took him in for x-rays, and what we found broke our hearts.
Smores is suffering from severe, long-term damage in both of his hip joints. The images revealed what appears to be old fractures in the “necks” of both thigh bones — the critical parts that connect his legs to his hips. Now, they’ve developed into painful, advanced arthritis that makes walking difficult for this little piggy.
But Smores is a fighter, and we’re fighting for him, too! We’ve started him on pain medication to ease his discomfort, and he’s undergoing twice-weekly laser therapy to reduce inflammation and improve mobility. This treatment is costly, but Smores’ quality of life is our top priority.
