Fundraiser Profile Image

Meet a shelter favourite, Berkley!

Berkley has been at AARCS since October 2023. He came to us with suspected otitis media, which means a middle ear infection, causing him a cute but concerning head tilt to the left side. He underwent multiple veterinary examinations, antibiotics and ear treatment therapies to attempt to soothe his discomfort and identify the cause of his head tilt... but nothing worked, and the infection quickly returned.

Our next step was to get Berkley to see a veterinary specialist. A CT scan determined that Berkley has some abnormal anatomy in his ear that may be causing the head tilt. At this stage, the specialists have advised us to do a 30 day trial of an NSAID medication, then re-evaulate. It is likely that he will need a surgical assessment and exploration of the area by a Board Certified Surgeon. Our primary goal is to ensure that this loveable dog can live a normal life.

If you've ever had an ear infection, you know how uncomfortable it makes day-to-day life; or, if you have ever experienced vertigo, you might know how Berkley feels living with a head tilt. This has been his reality for as long as we've known him, and we are doing everything in our power to help this sweet boy feel better.

Specialist consults and surgery are incredibly costly, but Berkley's quality of life is our main concern. Can you help him experience life without chronic pain and discomfort?

Email updates showing Berkley's progress will be provided to those who donate towards his care. Check out this adorable, goofy boy on Global News Calgary!

Care requirements include CT scan, specialist consults, specialty surgery, medications and daily care until Berkley is ready for adoption.

If the amount raised for Berkley exceeds his cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.

Please note that when donating to more than one animal, your credit card may be flagged for unusual activity. We recommend waiting a few minutes between transactions to prevent this error. Thank you for your patience!
