Meet Blige, an incredibly sweet senior cat with a painful condition.
Blige came into AARCS with severe ear infections in both ears that had been longstanding (chronic) and have caused irreversible changes to his ear canals. He suffers from a condition known as "cystomatosis" or "cystic hyperplasia" in which the glands inside the ear canal become enlarged (hyperplastic) and can fill with fluid-making cysts. Sadly, these cysts in the ear canals end up predisposing him to further ear infections and the cycle continues.
Treatment for Blige's condition involves removing the growths caused by these hyperplastic glands, but due to their location inside the ear canal this can be a very involved procedure and requires a specialist surgeon. In some cases, the entire ear canal needs to be removed.
Blige continues to be a sweet boy despite the constant discomfort from his ears, but he deserves a better life than one of chronic pain and infections. Can you help this sweet kitty get the specialized surgery he needs to help him live out his golden days pain free?
Email updates showing Blige's progress will be provided to those who donate towards his care. Read Blige's first email update here and second email update here!
Care requirements include a specialist consultation, specialist surgery, medications and daily care until Blige is ready for adoption.
If the amount raised for Blige exceeds his cost of care, funds will help other animals in need.
